Who We Are

NHS Ayrshire and Arran is one of 14 territorial NHS Boards within NHS Scotland.

In support of our core purpose of working together to achieve the healthiest life possible for everyone in Ayrshire and Arran, we are committed to a culture that is caring, safe, and respectful. You will be required to work collaboratively in a safe, caring, and respectful way.

Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Pharmacist based at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What You Will Do

We are looking for an experienced pharmacist who is highly motivated, innovative, and enthusiastic for this role. You will lead, develop, and deliver prescribing and pharmaceutical care to the Ayrshire & Arran Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

You will provide expert advice in pharmaceutical matters, promote safe, clinically effective, and cost-effective prescribing, and act as an independent prescriber within the CAMHS outpatient setting. When operational, you will also provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients within the National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service (NSAIS).

You will contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of pharmaceutical services to CAMHS patients, including implementing relevant mental health legislation. You will be accountable for the safe and cost-effective use of medicines and promote local initiatives to improve medicines management.

You will work closely with primary care to identify prescribing indicators, develop joint working plans, and ensure the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medicines. You should have a passion for high-quality patient care and the ability to build strong professional relationships with multidisciplinary teams and pharmacy colleagues.

Knowledge, Training, and Experience Required

You will have a key role within the mental health pharmacy team, requiring strong leadership skills. The role demands autonomy, innovation, confidence, and problem-solving skills. Good communication, organizational, and IT skills are essential. Previous mental health experience is desirable but not mandatory.

You must be a qualified pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, an independent prescriber, and hold a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent competence. Full PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure Scotland is required.

Hours

22.2 hours per week. New NHS candidates should expect to start at the entry point of the pay scale.

Driving Licence/Car Ownership

A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence and car ownership are essential.
