Technical Team Leader – Environmental Permit Compliance
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Team Leader to join the Environment Permit Compliance Team in the Asset Management Directorate at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping the Company provide the best service to our customers.

Location
Hybrid working (office, on‑site and home) with initial base at our Buttershaw site in Bradford. The role will initially be based in Bradford but we’re moving our office to Leeds Valley Park in Summer 2026, so you’ll be based there in the future.
Work type
Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Responsibilities
* Lead and support a team of technical environmental permit compliance specialists to deliver team outputs, performance and service standards
* Coach and mentor team members, fostering a high‑performing, collaborative culture
* Provide technical and operational direction for meeting permit compliance
* Analyse and interpret permit compliance data to identify risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement
* Develop and track improvement action plans to ensure compliance with environmental permits and internal performance targets
* Collaborate with operational teams, asset management, permitting and regulatory teams to deliver improvements
* Support team activities and deliverables such as CAR form responses, proactive site compliance audits, Environment Agency inspections and liaison
* Support the development and implementation of associated management systems and procedures
Qualifications and skills
* People management, coaching, mentoring and/or leadership experience
* In‑depth understanding of wastewater processes, environmental permits and compliance
* Experience working in the WASC sector or operating within a regulated industry or framework
* Proven ability to influence across multiple levels of the business and externally
* Excellent stakeholder management and collaborative working
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities
* Experience in change management and conflict resolution
* Process improvement capabilities
* Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical and compliance information
* Full UK driving licence and access to own car
