The Role
The post holder will lead and deliver on medicines guidance for the Pharmacy/Prescribing directorate across NHS Lanarkshire. This will include the provision of expert professional and highly specialised advice relating to medicines. The post holder will be involved in the local and regional formulary process and that the medicines are appropriate for use by all prescribers. Continued support and development of the Scriptswitch process will be an area of focus and the development and maintenance of a clinical guidelines process across Lanarkshire will also be an important part of the role. The post holder will also provide leadership to pharmacists and technicians across the health board on a range of medicines issues as well as representing the health board in national formulary groups, and strategic NHS Lanarkshire meetings.
Additional Information Specific to the Role
1. Work closely with other members of the central team on the clinical and cost effective use of medicines across Lanarkshire.
2. Promote safe, effective and cost effective use of medicines by monitoring formulary compliance in the primary and secondary care sector.
3. Contribute to the development and facilitate the implementation of evidence based drug treatment guidelines for specific diseases.
4. Work closely with senior pharmacists across primary and secondary care in NHS Lanarkshire as well as other healthcare professionals on issues relating to medicines and medicines policies.
5. Prepare reports for ADTC and other NHS Lanarkshire wide groups to aid discussions on the use of new and established medicines across Lanarkshire.
6. Use financial, pharmacy and critical appraisal skills to promote the use of appropriate, cost-effective and evidence based medicines. This includes managing conflicting opinions and evidence and advising when there is a lack of information/evidence.
7. Initiate and manage meetings with prescribers and other healthcare professionals for formulary and related medicines management decisions.
8. A clinical commitment may be considered to provide prescribing and pharmaceutical input to individual GP practices and their associated care homes to ensure quality, safe and cost effective use of medicines in line with local, regional and national guidelines.

What we'll need you to bring
9. Masters degree in Pharmacy (previously BSc Hons).
10. Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (Pre-registration practice and competency assessment with examination to enter the register).
11. Relevant Post Graduate qualification (or equivalent) or equivalent specialist knowledge gained through experience.
12. Demonstrable post registration experience as a pharmacist with a wide range of experience in different branches of pharmacy practice including hospital and community pharmacy.
13. Demonstrable evidence of service development within a previous role.
14. Demonstrable evidence of negotiating and influencing other members of the multidisciplinary team.
15. Evidence of continuing professional development.
16. Required to demonstrate highly specialised clinical pharmacy knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning and judgement.
17. Proven negotiation skills and the ability to motivate and influence others to address a variety of prescribing issues.
18. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, senior managers, patients and carers.
19. Information technology and analytical skills.
20. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
21. Good working knowledge of Microsoft office programmes is essential.
22. Valid driving licence.

23. Registered with the RPSGB.
24. Project management experience in organising and completing projects of various sizes and complexity.
25. A working knowledge of GP clinical computer systems and the ability to interpret prescribing data provided by the Information and Statistics Division i.e. PRISMS/PIS data.
26. Experience of working with Primary Care practitioners.
27. Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
28. Experience of working with primary care practitioners in multidisciplinary environment.
29. Knowledge of legislation and guidance relating to medicines use.
30. Maintains a broad level of pharmacy practice.
31. Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development.

Please note this is a part time post and the salary for this position will be pro-rata.
Please note this is a fixed term post for 18 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
