AtkinsRéalis is one of the world's leading rail engineers. Its rail business is the largest in its field in Europe. Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) is an integral part of the UK railway system, providing traction power to electric trains on all major main lines. The AtkinsRéalis OLE design team is one of the longest‑established teams in the UK, with roots dating back to British Rail. It has been the OLE Lead Design Organisation on the majority of recent electrification schemes in the UK.
Overview
We undertake projects from feasibility through to detailed design and construction management. Our engineers design OLE projects, producing Layout Plans, Cross sections, Switching cross sections, Section Diagrams and Bonding plans. Designs encompass all elements of the OLE System from structural steelwork through to wiring fittings and electrical feeding arrangements. We are part of the Central Rail Systems Alliance (CRSA), delivering renewals and enhancements from North London to the Scottish Border. We have committed forward workload and need to expand our design team to support these works. As an OLE Engineer you will work alongside a Design Engineer, producing design drawings, technical reports, and calculation sheets, and may also conduct site survey activities using specialist OLE survey equipment. A pre‑employment medical and drug and alcohol screening will be required, and you will receive Personal Track Safety training after a successful probation period.
Your role
* Production of high‑quality engineering design drawings and documents with compliance to technical assurance.
* Collaborative working within the current discipline and other engineering disciplines to achieve the best solution for the project.
* Delegation to technicians and other junior members as lead designer.
* Application of professional knowledge and experienced judgement.
* Effective communication with the Senior/Principal Engineer on all project matters.
About you
Essential
* Understanding of the rail industry in the UK.
* Knowledge of engineering principles and the role of engineering standards (British Standards, Network Rail Standards, etc.).
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Experience using CAD software.
* Membership of a relevant professional institution.
Desirable
* Appropriate experience of OLE engineering design/consultancy.
* Proficiency in the MicroStation CAD package.
Qualifications
* Minimum BEng / BSc in a relevant engineering subject.
