Overview
The Deputy Director of People & Culture will be a visible role model and help develop a class-leading people function which includes services such as Human Resources, Occupational Health, Payroll & Pensions, Resourcing, Workforce Planning & Information, Workforce Systems, Training & Development, Organisation Development and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. The Trust has appointed a new Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive and is about to embark on a major culture change programme. The Deputy Director of People & Culture will provide leadership and direction to transform the Workforce & OD Directorate at an operational level, ensuring resources are maximised and policies, processes, systems and working practices are translated into simple, effective and easy-to-follow practices and actions.
Responsibilities
* Lead the transformation of the Workforce & OD Directorate at an operational level, translating policies, processes, systems and working practices into practical, actionable steps.
* Manage highly complex Employee Relations and Industrial Relations issues and operationalise employment law changes into everyday practices.
* Advise the Director of Workforce & OD, Chief Executive and Board as required.
* Collaborate with the Director of Workforce & OD to develop and implement the Trusts People Strategy in line with regional and national priorities.
* Lead the operational activity to achieve the objectives set out in the People Strategy.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Experience leading a diverse people function including HR, Occupational Health, Payroll & Pensions, Resourcing, Workforce Planning & Information, Workforce Systems, Training & Development, Organisation Development and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.
* Ability to manage complex employee relations and industry relations issues and to interpret employment law into practical policies and practices.
* Ability to work with senior leadership and the Board to deliver strategic people initiatives.
* Demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
* Must be able to produce all certificates stated as essential in the person specification to complete pre-employment checks.
About the Trust
We provide hospital services from two acute sites—Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham—and operate a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland. We also provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale, plus over 80 other community settings and patient homes.
