School Crossing Patrol Officer – Lawford Mead Primary
Location: Chelmsford • Permanent, Term Time • £13.00 per hour • Working Style: Community-based worker
Role details
Support schools in the morning and afternoon to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations. Available approx. 7.5 hours per week during 39 weeks of the academic year, with 45 minutes in the morning (08:00 – 09:00) and 45 minutes in the afternoon (14:45 – 15:45). Uniform, equipment and training provided.
Responsibilities
* Have regard for the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired pedestrians using the crossing point.
* Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
* Assess risks at the crossing site, report problems and defects to the supervisor.
* Assist in preparing reports on accidents and incidents at the crossing site (e.g., accidents, failure to stop).
* Maintain uniform and equipment in good condition and request replacements when needed.
* Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure the road at the crossing is clear of pedestrians.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Punctual, reliable, approachable, and enjoy engaging with the public.
* Willing to work within school hours and adapt to site requirements.
