Our parks and open spaces are at the heart of our communities - places for everyone to enjoy, connect with nature, and stay active. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and community-minded Park Ranger to help us keep these spaces safe, welcoming and well cared for. As part of the Outdoor & Leisure Team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining, protecting and enhancing our parks and green spaces. You’ll support environmental education, encourage positive visitor behaviour, and work with volunteers, community groups and partners to improve local spaces and biodiversity. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same - from patrolling and carrying out safety checks to supporting events and engaging with the public about local bylaws and environmental issues. What you’ll be doing… Carrying out regular site inspections and compliance checks for parks and open spaces. Maintaining a visible presence to promote safety, offer advice and enforce regulations and bylaws. Assisting with grounds maintenance, minor repairs, litter picking and graffiti removal. Supporting events on council land - before, during and after they take place. Working with community groups, volunteers and “Friends of” groups to improve our parks. Promoting environmental awareness and encouraging biodiversity initiatives. Ensuring health and safety standards are met and reporting maintenance issues as required. Contributing to service initiatives including Green Flag and Cumbria in Bloom. Who we are looking for… You’ll have a genuine passion for the outdoors and enjoy working with people from all walks of life. You’ll bring practical skills, initiative and a can-do attitude to make a positive difference in our communities. We’re looking for someone who can: Communicate clearly and confidently with the public and stakeholders. Demonstrate experience in community engagement, enforcement or park management. Work independently and as part of a team. Manage your own workload effectively and respond quickly to issues. Apply good knowledge of health and safety and environmental best practice. Essential requirements… Relevant qualification in an environmental, countryside or related subject or equivalent work experience. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
