General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Custodian II position functions as a working supervisor who supervises and trains custodial staff and participates in the regular cleaning and security operations necessary for proper maintenance, safety, and security of an assigned building or group of buildings. This full-time regular position maintains inventories of cleaning equipment and supplies and ensures they are properly used and stored. The custodial supervisor is responsible for cleanliness, sanitation, and orderliness both inside and outside of areas assigned, as well as for the removal of waste collected. The custodial supervisor also makes regular inspections to ensure maintenance of cleanliness standards and safe and secure conditions, and performs other maintenance as directed. This is a full-time, regular position.
Essential Functions
Clean All Aspects of Assigned Are a
1. Cleans and disinfects sinks, toilets, and trash receptacles; cleans and fills toilet paper and paper towel dispensers; cleans mirrors, hand rails, glass doors, windows, window ledges, walls, coat racks, file cabinets, blinds, shelves, tables, chairs, chalkboards, dry erase boards, ceilings, diffusers, and air ducts; empties trash cans and replaces liners; changes light bulbs; sweeps, dusts, scrubs, buffs, strips and wax hard surface floors in all assigned areas; vacuums carpets; shampoos and extracts carpets as needed.
Secure Area
2. Responsible for unlocking all doors as needed and assigned, and making sure all doors are locked after use.
Safety and Security
3. Understand the dangers and safety precautions in the use of cleaning chemicals. Keep emergency eye wash stations in working order.
4. Put out “wet floor” signs when appropriate and remove them when the floors are dry.
5. Assist in maintaining a secure environment for the building, and secure assistance from authorities as needed.
Supervise
6. Supervises any assigned custodial staff
7. Train custodial staff as needed
8. Set up assigned custodian staff work schedules, as needed.

Marginal Functions
9. Assist with room set-ups for special requests.
10. Perform minor repairs to custodial machines.
11. Clean buffet pads for reuse.
12. Inventory and reorder cleaning supplies and equipment. Restock cleaning carts and area custodial closets.
13. Water plants.
14. Spray insects.
15. Sweep, shovel snow, or remove ice from entrances in the immediate building area.
16. Monitor the weather radio during severe weather.
17. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
18. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
19. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
20. Knowledge of custodial and floor care supplies, materials, and equipment. Skill and ability to use this knowledge.
21. Ability to cradle 55-gallon drums of cleaning materials with assistance.
22. Ability to move approximately 100 pounds a short distance with assistance.
23. Ability to move approximately 50 pounds approximately 30 feet.
24. Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public.
25. Ability to work as a productive member of a maintenance team using the established practices, procedures, and policies of the college and the directives of the supervisor.
26. Ability to lift equipment to multi-level areas.
27. Ability to climb ladders up to 12 feet, then reach a 16-foot ceiling height.
28. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
29. Ability to use basic computer skills.
30. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
31. High school graduate or GED.
32. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the custodial area, with one (1) year in a supervisory capacity.
33. Able to work with cleaning chemicals.
34. Minimum 1 year of experience in the maintenance of hard surface floors
