To plan, prepare and perform a range of standard and highly specialist neurophysiological investigations on a diverse range of patients as required.
Carry out training and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate student clinical physiologists and other healthcare professionals.
Contribute to the development of evidence-based practice, including departmental and regional audits and development of departmental protocols.
Work as an effective member of the team to ensure that the patient is central to all that we do and that services are run smoothly and efficiently.
A preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Responsibility Summary
* Plan, prepare and perform a range of standard, diagnostic neurophysiological investigations (electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potentials, basic nerve conduction studies) on patients of all ages according to departmental protocols in dedicated and non-dedicated environments (wards including HDU, ICU).
* Plan, prepare and perform a full range of advanced diagnostic neurophysiological investigations (continuous EEG monitoring, Video/EEG telemetry, ambulatory EEG, advanced evoked potentials e.g. electroretinography, multiple sleep latency testing, polygraphic recordings) on patients of all ages according to departmental protocols, generally unsupervised but under supervision where necessary, performed in dedicated and non-dedicated environments (wards, HDU, ICU, neonatal ICU or at home).
* Use initiative to adapt, prolong or change an investigation to meet the clinical need of the patient and optimising diagnostic information for referring clinician.
* Undertake and interpret diagnostic tests, including equipment testing and highly specialist tests.
* Analyze complex data and produce accurate factual reports on all neurophysiological investigations, comparing to normal or previously recorded data, and documenting any clinical change or intervention.
* Analyse, edit and report on complex diagnostic ambulatory/video-EEG telemetry data, identifying seizures and EEG abnormalities.
* Maintain safe archiving and indexing of data to storage media or databases.
* Plan and prioritize appropriate investigations based on clinical urgency and need, liaising with wards and medical/nursing staff, evaluating room, staffing and equipment availability.
* Conduct routine preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment, ensuring regular calibration and general maintenance, recognising faults and taking appropriate action.
* Clean equipment and implement safe disposal of clinical waste, cleaning electrodes according to local and national guidelines.
