Freight Operator - Southampton - Up to 40,000
Our client are seeking a proactive and experienced Freight Forwarder to manage daily freight forwarding and customs operations, including T1 movements and bonded warehouse procedures. This role involves handling import/export shipments from initial enquiry through to invoicing, ensuring customs compliance, and supporting commercial functions such as rate building and customer quotations.
Working Hours & Benefits
* Salary: Up to 40,000 per annum
* Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00-17:00 (with flexibility on start/finish times)
* Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays
* Bonus: Discretionary annual bonus based on performance
* Hybrid working: Available after probation or sooner, depending on experience and performance
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee end-to-end shipment coordination - including quoting, bookings, documentation, and invoicing
* Manage T1 generation and bonded warehouse entries (in and out) in full compliance with HMRC regulations.
* Maintain accurate customs records and complete declarations (e.g. Home Use, CFSP) on time.
* Submit import/export declarations via Descartes e-Customs and ASM Sequoia.
* Liaise with shipping lines, agents, and third parties to ensure operational efficiency.
* Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. warehousing and inbound logistics) to resolve customs-related issues.
* Assist in HMRC audits, client queries, and internal bonded warehouse reconciliations.
* Support pricing strategies and handle customer rate requests.
* Build and maintain strong commercial relationships with customers and suppliers.
Requirements
* Solid background in multi-modal freight forwarding for a UK based freight/logistics company (essential)
* Experience with T1 movements and bonded warehouse operations (essential)
* In-depth knowledge of customs procedures (essential)
* Direct experience with Descartes e-Customs (preferred)
* Commercially minded with rate quoting and pricing experience (essential)
* Proficiency in Excel and freight systems
