Growing Manager - Tunstead, Norfolk - Competitive Salary + Benefits
The Job:
We are recruiting a Growing Manager on behalf of a leading fruit and fresh produce business. This hands-on, strategic role involves overseeing the health and productivity of all fruit crops across the site. Working closely with the Head of Fresh and Farm Management, you'll take ownership of crop planning, pest and disease control, growing trials, and long-term strategy to support expansion and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of fruit crop health from propagation to harvest
- Regular crop inspections and coordination with agronomists and industry consultants
- Monitor and manage pests and diseases, including trap monitoring and predator applications
- Conduct sampling of plants, growing media, and environmental conditions
- Manage crop husbandry tasks, labour planning, and piecework rates
- Maintain climate control systems in permanent growing structures
- Lead new projects and trials including new crop varieties, growing systems, and automation
- Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders on plant supply and strategy
- Contribute to future planning, sustainability, and business development
- Support staff development, succession planning, and team performance management
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety and Food Safety standards
The Candidate:
- Experience in fruit or protected cropping essential- Berries mainly, varied farm
- Proven record of crop management and team leadership in a horticultural or fresh produce environment
- Strong understanding of pests, diseases, agronomy, and crop trials
- Proactive and commercially minded with the ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement
- Strong communication and planning skills
- Passionate about high-quality production and sustainable growing practices
