The HR Business Partner is responsible for leading the operational HR function, ensuring robust people practices, legal compliance, and high-quality support for managers across the full employee lifecycle. This role acts as a trusted advisor to leaders, managing employee relations, performance, policies, and HR systems, while helping the business scale in a structured and compliant way.
This role partners closely with the Head of Culture & Development, who leads culture, engagement and development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & HR Advisory
Act as first point of contact for managers on employee relations matters
Lead and advise on disciplinaries, grievances, absence management and performance concerns
Coach managers to handle people issues confidently and fairly
Manage complex or sensitive cases with professionalism and discretion
HR Compliance & Policy
Maintain and update HR policies and the employee handbook
Ensure full compliance with UK employment law and HR best practice
Oversee contracts, right-to-work checks and employee documentation
Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
Performance Management
Own and administer company performance review processes
Support managers with performance improvement plans and capability processes
Track performance outcomes and identify trends or risks
Ensure performance practices are fair, consistent and aligned with business goals
Pay, Benefits & Workforce Planning
Support salary benchmarking and compensation planning
Coordinate annual pay review and promotions processes
Oversee benefits administration (pension, leave, perks)
Monitor pay equity and support fair, transparent reward practices
HR Systems & Processes
Manage and optimise HR systems and employee data
Maintain organisational charts, reporting lines and people dashboards
Standardise and improve HR processes to support business growth
Provide reporting and insights to leadership on people metrics
Recruitment (Process & Governance)
Support managers with recruitment best practice and structured hiring processes
Ensure compliant, fair and consistent hiring practices
Track recruitment metrics and workforce trends
Skills & Experience Required
Strong generalist HR experience, ideally in a fast-growing business
Ideally CIPD 5 or CIPD 7
Excellent working knowledge of UK employment law
Proven experience managing employee relations cases end-to-end
Confidence advising and influencing managers at all levels
Experience with HR systems and data reporting
Calm, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach
