Job Summary
Lead a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality blood donation services that save lives every day. As a Donor Centre Manager, you will ensure a reliable supply of blood and blood components to meet patient needs, while creating a positive and supportive experience for donors and staff. You will take ownership of performance, safety, and quality standards, using your leadership skills to motivate teams, drive continuous improvement, and manage change. Working closely with colleagues across NHS Blood and Transplant, you will play a vital role in strengthening collaboration, improving service delivery, and maintaining the highest levels of regulatory compliance and patient care.
Main duties of the job
1. Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team, setting clear expectations and driving performance against key targets and KPIs.
2. Ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant blood donation service, maintaining high standards of donor care and product safety.
3. Deliver an excellent donor experience, acting as a visible and approachable leader within the donor centre.
4. Analyse performance data to identify trends, manage risk, and implement improvements to service delivery.
5. Lead quality governance activities, including audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
6. Manage change programmes, translating organisational objectives into meaningful improvements for teams and services.
7. Build strong relationships across departments to ensure a reliable and sustainable blood supply.
8. Develop and support staff through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
9. Ensure compliance with clinical, regulatory, and organisational policies and procedures.
10. Contribute to service development, innovation, and future workforce planning.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
11. Proven leadership experience in a clinical or regulated environment, managing and motivating teams to deliver results.
12. Strong communication, influencing, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
13. Experience of improving services, leading change, and delivering against performance targets.
14. Ability to analyse complex information, manage risk, and make sound decisions under pressure.
15. Experience of staff development, including coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
Qualifications and Training
16. Registered Nurse (RN) qualification.
17. Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
18. Recognised teaching and assessment qualification.
19. Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
