Overview

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Paediatric Haemophilia role at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. The post supports the haemophilia service across the lifespan, working jointly with adult and paediatric services to provide expert nursing care for patients with bleeding disorders, including adults with ITP. The Paediatric nurse works with the adult haemophilia nurses to ensure a seamless service and offers advice to patients, carers and other health care professionals for both children and adults.


Responsibilities

* Deliver a comprehensive, highly specialist service to patients and families affected by bleeding disorders, offering clinical expertise, emotional support, and practical guidance throughout their healthcare journey.
* Provide antenatal counselling, paediatric management, transition planning, and ongoing adult care to ensure seamless and coordinated service across all life stages.
* Work autonomously and make high-level clinical decisions, assess, plan, and implement specialist care tailored to individual needs.
* Act as a key worker, liaising with haematology consultants, community teams, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic, patient-centred care.
* Provide immunisation and vaccination reporting as required from current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Share responsibility with the adult haemophilia nurse specialist to ensure integrated service delivery and cross-cover where needed.
* Lead the development of a home treatment and community outreach service to support patients and families outside the hospital setting.
* Provide specialist leadership in education, training, research, and audit within inherited bleeding disorders and ITP; act as an expert resource for colleagues across the Trust.
* Lead on education, training, research and audit relevant to the field and collaborate on shaping the haemophilia and ITP service through innovation and compassionate care.
* Provide specialist clinical leadership and develop education and training for staff related to inherited bleeding disorders.
* Coordinate referrals to Specialist Services (including genetic counselling, carrier detection and Obstetrics) and devise specialist information for patients and carers, including teaching procedures to venepuncture, subcutaneous injections, central venous access management, and administration of clotting factors.
* Record all patient-related work accurately for commissioning and maintain stock of Factor Concentrates; participate in haemophilia medications and blood component activities.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care across the patient care pathway and ensure effective management of this patient group.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Ability to work autonomously with a strong clinical leadership presence in the area of haemophilia and bleeding disorders.
* Experience and competence in clinical skills relevant to haemophilia care (e.g., venepuncture, cannulation, and management of central venous access devices).
* Ability to act as an expert resource for national, local, and Trust policy and procedures in line with the National Service Specification for Haemophilia and related disorders.
* Commitment to education, training, research, and audit in inherited bleeding disorders and ITP.
* Willingness to participate in home treatment service development and community outreach to extend care beyond the hospital setting.
