Job Overview
We are seeking a qualified and HV-authorised Supervising Engineer to support the Hard FM operations at HMRC's flagship site at Pilgrim Quarter, Newcastle upon Tyne. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of high voltage and complex low voltage electrical systems under Mitie's Central Government portfolio.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Supervising Engineer will oversee day-to-day engineering activities, supervise shift engineers, and act as an Authorised Person (Electrical) in accordance with Mitie's Electrical Safety Rules. This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise, leadership, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance.
2. Main Duties
1. Authorised Person Duties: Implement and operate the Electrical Safety Rules on site for HV and complex LV systems. Issue, cancel, and manage Permits to Work, Sanctions to Test, Certificates of Isolation/Earthing, and other safety documentation.
2. Team Supervision: Lead and support shift engineers, ensuring safe and effective delivery of planned and reactive maintenance.
3. Compliance & Safety: Maintain site logbooks, registers, and mimic diagrams. Ensure adherence to statutory regulations and internal safety procedures.
4. Risk Management: Ensure suitable and sufficient activity risk assessments are completed prior to issuing safety documents.
5. Asset Oversight: Monitor system performance and ensure accurate documentation of electrical assets.
6. Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with the client, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
7. Training & Development: Assess and appoint Competent Persons (Electrical), maintain CPD logbooks, and support ongoing training initiatives.
8. Incident Reporting: Identify and report defects, dangerous conditions, and occurrences to the Authorising Engineer and Controlling Manager.
3. What We're Looking For
We're looking for a qualified Supervising Engineer with high voltage (HV) authorisation or clear eligibility for appointment under Mitie's Electrical Safety Rules. You should have strong technical knowledge of HV and complex LV systems, including switching operations, safety documentation, and compliance frameworks.
Experience supervising engineering teams in facilities management or critical infrastructure environments is essential. You'll need to be confident managing planned and reactive maintenance, issuing safety documents, and maintaining site records such as logbooks and mimic diagrams.
