The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) plays a vital role in keeping Britain’s roads safe and efficient. We are responsible for the registration and licensing of drivers in Great Britain and vehicles across the UK, as well as the collection and enforcement of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). Our work ensures that only qualified drivers and correctly taxed vehicles are on the road.

Our key responsibilities include issuing photocard driving licences and vehicle registration certificates, recording driver endorsements and medical conditions, and taking enforcement action against tax evaders. We also register and issue tachograph cards, sell personalised registrations, and support law enforcement by providing crucial data to police and intelligence services. In addition, we offer anonymised data services to authorised users, helping inform public and private sector decision-making.

As the Drivers Medical Support and Allocation Operational Leader you will provide strategic and operational leadership across three operational support teams within the Drivers Medical function, ensuring the effective delivery of work allocation, quality assurance, and business support services.

You will have direct line management responsibility for three Executive Officers (EOs) and their respective teams.

The role requires a strong command of management information (MI), which is used daily to monitor performance, inform work allocation decisions, and identify trends in quality and service delivery. You will lead discussions on operational workflow, champion continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure all support functions operate effectively and in line with wider organisational objectives.

A key focus will be on driving performance, supporting staff development, and embedding a culture of accountability and service excellence. The role also demands a proactive approach to problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and business planning to ensure high-quality, consistent support to frontline operations.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

* To lead and manage the area to:
o Support the achievement of customer service targets.
o Achieve internal targets and standards.
o Improve efficiency and effectiveness.
o Support the delivery of business change processes.
o Review and improve current procedures.
o Developing and implementing business change processes.
* Collate, review, monitor, and interpret relevant data and information, reporting outcomes to relevant parties.
* Develop and maintain working relationships with customers and stakeholders
* Plan and apply resource and budget effectively.
