A leading provider of innovative engineering solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of pressure vessels, pipework systems, heat exchangers, and bespoke fabrication fixtures. The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the end-to-end design process for complex mechanical systems. You'll ensure that all designs comply with international standards including ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, and BS EN 12952, and are delivered to meet both performance and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and pipework using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
* Carry out stress analysis, material selection, and technical calculations to validate designs.
* Create accurate and detailed technical drawings and manufacturing documentation.
* Collaborate with project, production, and QA teams to deliver efficient, high-quality solutions.
* Evaluate and optimise existing designs for cost-effectiveness and manufacturability.
* Ensure adherence to all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Maintain comprehensive design documentation and records throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Proven experience designing pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or pressure pipework
In-depth knowledge of ASME III, ASME VIII, PD 5500, BS EN 12952
Proficient in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other 3D CAD tools
Strong understanding of material selection and mechanical stress analysis
Excellent communication, organisation, and teamwork abilities
Ability to manage multiple design projects to deadline
Security Requirements:
Due to the nature of the work, this role is open only to British nationals who are eligible for UK Government security clearance. Applicants will need to undergo vetting in accordance with UKSV procedures. These requirements are in place for legal and security compliance.
Desirable Skills
* Experience in power generation, oil and gas, chemical, or energy industries
* Familiarity with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration (IMechE, IED)
