Job Summary
The haemoglobinopathy service at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is seeking a registered children's nurse to develop clinical skills in automated red cell exchange transfusion and to care for children with red cell conditions in a day‑care setting. The role involves providing red cell exchanges, blood transfusions, phlebotomy and cannulation.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to an on‑call red cell exchange programme.
* Work with the team and perform automated red cell exchanges.
* Accept patient referrals according to agreed criteria and act as key worker for an agreed patient/client caseload.
* Provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other healthcare professionals.
* Practice clinically in agreed care settings according to approved protocols or guidance.
* Be expected to be part of the on‑call team for out‑of‑hours service to the sickle cell patient group.
Additional Information
Experience working in day‑care is desirable but not essential. The successful candidate will join an existing team of specialist nurses and will be supported by the lead nurse.
