We are seeking a patient, compassionate, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Barking, starting ASAP. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.
The school has a strong inclusive ethos and supports pupils with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. Staff work closely with the SENCO and class teachers to ensure each pupil receives personalised and consistent support.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence. You will also play a vital role in supporting behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction in a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEN
* Assist pupils with academic tasks across the curriculum
* Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and individual support plans
* Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
* Promote positive behaviour, independence, and confidence
* Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and SENCO
* Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times
* Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff
* Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
* Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times
