Overview

The successful applicant will join a dynamic team of 4 Consultant Paediatric Surgeons based in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital (RACH), within the Combined Child Health Service of NHS Grampian. They will provide a range of General Paediatric Surgical and Neonatal Services to children and young people living in Grampian, and also contribute to service elsewhere in the North of Scotland, including the Highlands and the Shetland and Orkney Islands.
Responsibilities
* Provide General Paediatric Surgical and Neonatal Services to children and young people in Grampian.
* Work as part of a team of 5 Paediatric Surgeons on the acute out of hours rota.
* Participate in the “surgeon of the week” system to cover daytime acute service.
* Conduct clinics at RACH and peripheral hospitals.
* Contribute to services in the North of Scotland, including the Highlands and Shetland/Orkney Islands.
Qualifications
* UK‑trained doctors with evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from the date of interview.
* CER (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors eligible for a substantive Consultant post once registration is awarded.
* Doctors with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC and a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC required prior to starting in post.
Benefits
As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week, with a corresponding increase in hourly rate to keep pay unaffected.
