Role Overview
As a Barclays Corporate Banking Lawyer VP, you will be a member of Loans and Portfolio Management Legal, supporting the Bank’s lending businesses across Investment Bank, International Corporate Banking and UK Corporate Bank from an origination, execution, distribution and asset management perspective.
The role involves advising on complex and vanilla loan transactions and financing structures, and broadly connecting to the strategic priorities of the Legal function and the firm.
Qualifications
* Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales, with a track record of leading loan financing transactions in investment and corporate banking.
* Good knowledge of LMA documentation and loan market positions.
* Ability to navigate regulatory and compliance landscape.
* Ability to manage business stakeholders at different levels.
Additional Highly Valued Skills
* Experience at a magic circle firm with a global practice.
* Knowledge of financing perspectives across markets (property, telecoms, utilities, project, infrastructure, general corporate).
* Inhouse legal experience.

Purpose of the Role
To ensure corporate banking division activities related to the role’s product set are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, and help the bank manage legal and reputational risks.
Accountabilities
* Develop and implement best‑practice legal strategies related to the product set, managing risk of non‑compliance.
* Provide subject‑matter legal advice and support to corporate and investment banking divisions globally on trade, working capital finance, cash management, real estate finance, project finance, asset‑backed finance, lending and other corporate loan finance.
* Support business and infrastructure functions (credit, compliance, risk, product management, tax, finance, fraud, transaction management, structuring, litigation, commercial contract support, operations) in collaboration with other legal teams.
* Represent the bank in legal proceedings (litigation, arbitration, regulatory investigations) related to the product set.
* Create and review legal documents, maintaining and updating documentation for the corporate banking division.
* Deliver training programmes to educate employees on legal and regulatory requirements.
* Pro‑actively identify, communicate, and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules and regulations (LRRs); keep up to date with changes, and ensure LRRs are reflected in policies, standards and controls.
