About the Role
Are you an experienced marketing, communications and fundraising leader who’s passionate about lasting change in rural Africa?
Ripple Effect International is seeking our first Head of Marcomms and Supporter Engagement. This is a unique opportunity to play a fundamental part in our mission in Africa by leading a hybrid function that integrates marketing, communications and supporter engagement.
Key responsibilities:
Strategy development and planning
·Develop and deliver an integrated marcomms and supporter engagement strategy that aligns with the organisation’s strategic goals.
·Lead the development of annual planning and income and expenditure budget management to make effective use of resources and achieve the best possible ROI.
·Build monitoring and evaluation into all activities to assess and learn from performance and inform future strategies.
·Work collaboratively with other global leaders to enhance the charity’s brand and income potential.
·Oversee the development and implementation of supporter journeys and marcomms activities to steward supporter relationships, increase engagement and grow long-term value. Prioritise supporters who are likely to become high-value givers or legacy pledgers.
·Lead on the development and delivery of carefully planned acquisition (primarily non-paid) activities to recruit new supporters.
·Achieve supporter engagement income targets and KPIs.
Marketing communications
·Oversee the planning, delivery and evaluation of marcomms and supporter engagement campaigns across digital and traditional communication channels, working in collaboration with the Digital Marcomms Manager and Individual Giving Manager (including email marketing, paid PPC, paid social etc)
·Lead the management of the organisation’s brand persona and identity to ensure targeted messaging, consistent use of brand guidelines, and impact across all content and collateral.
·Oversee the production of quality, on-brand assets including videos, campaign and appeal materials, and literature.
·Enable teams to create their own content by rolling out the delivery of design templates and content guidelines, improving processes, supporting the transition and tracking uptake.
·Oversee the management of Ripple Effect’s website and social media channels to enhance content, performance and user experience.
·Advise on media relations activity to so that messaging and approaches support brand, income and engagement goals.
Internal communications
·Enable global staff to communicate effectively by fostering a culture of open, efficient and person-centred communication across the organisation.
·Liaise with the CEO and other senior leaders on the messaging and delivery of internal communications to keep global staff informed, engaged and aligned with the charity’s work.
Team management
·Lead the Marcomms and Supporter Engagement team, providing direction and promoting a culture of collaboration.
·Manage and mentor direct reports, set clear objectives, provide and invite feedback and support their professional growth.
·Align the two teams as one team – recognising the key priorities of brand building and income generation.
·Set and monitor targets and KPIs for line reports.
·Strengthen the use of AI tech across the team to enable efficiencies and improvements in targeted messaging and communications to audiences.
Data, data protection and compliance
·Review overall Marcomms and Supporter Engagement metrics and KPIs and identify variances from plans.
·Collate insight and campaign data and report on that data to inform future work.
·Oversee data management to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data and to comply with data protection regulations.
·Maintain a robust, up-to-date understanding of GDPR and other relevant legislative / best practice developments. Work with the IT and Marcomms and Supporter Engagement team to ensure that the collection, storage and use of supporter data is in line with GDPR, and that individual fundraising practices are compliant with the Fundraising Regulator, charity law and IoF code of conducts.
·Assign leads across Marcomms and Supporter Engagement for GDPR, PECR, PCI security, Gift Aid and organisational processes such as Acceptance of Funds policy. Provide advice and driving improvements in these areas.
Other duties
·Represent Ripple Effect at external meetings, leadership meetings, and events when required.
·Travel within the UK and to overseas countries when necessary, with appropriate notice.
·Ensure compliance with Ripple Effect policies and all relevant legislation
·Act at all times according to Ripple Effect’s values and in support of its Africa Forward Together approach.
·To undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by the line manager
About You
Linking your strategic vision to organisational goals, you’ll devise integrated marcomms and engagement plans to deliver direct marketing initiatives that enhance our brand, engage and build a loyal supporter base, and meet income targets.
A key part of your role will be to amplify inspiring stories of the communities we work with in rural Africa. These stories are vital to evidence the impact that innovative agricultural practices and local support have on smallholder farmers who transform their livelihoods and lives. And what makes our communities uniquely different is their commitment to pass on their newly gained knowledge, skills and produce to fellow farmers, creating a powerful ripple effect of positive and sustainable change.
This approach to working together is also what binds our global teams. So as well as being a strong leader, you’ll also be proactive in collaborating across fundraising teams and adept at crafting internal and external communications to achieve our objectives.
This is a pivotal role that needs to confidently balance building the brand with attracting and retaining donors, and strategic leadership with hands on implementation.
