Job Description
Join our Simulation and Assessment team in the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You will apply your expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to perform detailed assessments of nuclear components, ensuring compliance with design codes such as ASME III and RCC‑M. Your role involves project planning, delivery, reporting, and regular communication with internal and external stakeholders, including client technical leads.
Responsibilities
* Desire to learn – develop skills and competencies across projects and customers.
* Technical aptitude – plan, undertake, and report simulation and assessment projects using ANSYS, Abaqus FEA, and MathCAD.
* Digital first – use engineering and data management software such as document control, P‑LCM, MS Office, TEAMS.
* Collaborative – work as part of a team, communicate effectively, and work independently as needed.
* Delivery focused – achieve milestones and produce high quality outputs on time and within cost budgets.
* Commercially aware – understand the commercial context of project delivery, manage requirements compliance, change, and technical risk.
* Organised & Communicative – plan effectively and communicate clearly.
* Report writing – write high‑quality, clear, concise, and accurate technical reports.
Qualifications
Essential
* Excellent technical fundamentals – aptitude for calculations, understanding of structures, mechanics and fluids, and ability to sense‑check analysis results.
* Hands‑on experience with computer‑based modelling codes such as Abaqus, Ansys, Nastran, CFD, etc.
* Appreciation of code assessments in a safety‑related industry (ASME, RCC‑M, KTA, or comparable).
* Engineering degree (or equivalent).
* Full UK driving licence and ability to travel within the UK.
Desirable / Preferred
* Previous experience in similar roles in the nuclear or fusion industry.
* Hands‑on experience of 3D CAD modelling in Autodesk Inventor, Catia, or SolidWorks.
* Experience of fluid‑modelling (CFD) or dynamic modelling (LS‑Dyna, Radioss).
* Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
