Job Description
3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• We are seeking a confident and capable Deputy Officer in Charge to support the management of a new children’s residential home.
• This is a vital leadership role within a service dedicated to providing short-term placements (up to 12 weeks) for some of our most vulnerable children and young people.
• The successful candidate will assist in delivering high-quality care, ensuring regulatory compliance, and helping shape a safe, nurturing environment where young people can thrive.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management and administration of the children’s home.
• Deliver and monitor high standards of care in line with all relevant legislation and best practice guidance.
• Ensure each child’s individual social, emotional, educational, cultural, physical and health needs are met.
• Empower young people to participate in decisions affecting their lives and promote independence.
• Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with families, carers, professionals, and community stakeholders.
• Support staff development and performance through supervision, mentoring and performance management.
• Contribute to effective budget management, ensuring appropriate and monitored use of financial resources.
• Coordinate and chair meetings where necessary, promoting inclusion and clear outcomes.
• Ensure the home operates in compliance with the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 and other relevant statutory requirements.

Skills/Experience:
• Proven experience in a senior role within a residential childcare setting.
• Relevant qualification that meets the criteria for registration with Social Care Wales.
• Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent.
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, safeguarding practices and child development.
• Familiarity with behaviour support models of care and trauma-informed approaches.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Ability to complete assessments, prepare detailed reports, and chair professional meetings.
• Experience in budget monitoring and use of financial management systems.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• A commitment to upholding and promoting the rights, dignity and well-being of children and young people.

Additional Information:
• Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week.
