Job Title: Engineering Leader
Location: Port Sunlight Factories (PC Factory) Site Based
Work-Level: 1S
JOB PURPOSE
The Engineering Leader is responsible for providing the required engineering support to the operation to meet the desired performance levels through sustainable improvements in engineering standards and equipment reliability. They develop, maintain, and continually improve equipment maintenance systems and procedures, working closely with their team to apply UMS and other CI tools and methodologies. The role involves spending maximum time with the team in the workplace, coaching on a one-to-one basis, and ensuring improvements are maintained through revisions, training, or changes in manufacturing procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
People responsibilities:
* Line manager of the engineering team, ensuring they are fully equipped, supported, empowered, skilled, motivated, and committed to delivering business objectives.
* Leads and coaches the team on processes, training, and providing regular feedback (PDPs & 121s).
* Ensures teams and individuals interface effectively with other departments (e.g., Quality, Safety, Planning, Warehouse, HR, Occupational Health) and are accountable in their areas.
* Drives escalations and prioritizes work.
Areas of Accountability:
Safety
* Promote a safe and efficient working environment in compliance with legislation and policies, with a deep understanding of OSHE procedures.
* Ensure incident reporting and analysis, with actions implemented accordingly.
* Participate in incident investigations and cascade learnings across the factory.
* Monitor team compliance with safety rules and risk assessments, taking appropriate actions.
* Engage with OSHE advisors for support.
Quality
* Understand all relevant Quality Procedures related to equipment performance.
* Review quality-related losses with the Quality Leader and address defects.
Cost
* Manage the Repairs and Maintenance budget.
* Liaise with the Operations Manager and budget holders to assess and fund improvements.
* Facilitate VIP ideas and resource planning.
* Work with Technical Department on effective stores holding for spares.
Other responsibilities
* Ensure 5S program development, implementation, and continuous improvement.
* Work with Unit Leaders on Autonomous Maintenance schedules and tagging exercises.
* Support maintenance planning and activities, ensuring logging and review of tasks.
* Maintain area activity boards and loss trees, and use them for prioritization and performance tracking.
* Participate in design reviews and support new equipment or product projects.
ABOUT YOU
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
* NVQ/QCF 4 or equivalent in Engineering or related field.
* Dual Skilled (Mechanical/Electrical) and membership desirable.
* Leadership experience preferred.
* Excellent IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office and SAP.
