Cancer Services is looking to appoint to the newly created role of Cancer Services Validation Officer, to ensure data quality and accuracy is upheld for patients referred on cancer pathways. This role will require extensive knowledge of cancer tracking and will contribute to ensuring the trust reports all cancer data accurately and on time.

The post holder will provide highly specialised validation work into individual pathways, ensuring adherence to Cancer Waiting Times guidance and high-quality data input for reporting obligations.

The post holder will also provide thematic feedback to senior members of the clinical and managerial teams across all directorates and identify key areas of improvement following validation.

Knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications and a wide range of trust systems, an understanding of data protection, and maintaining strict confidentiality in the healthcare setting are all essential, together with excellent organisational and communication skills, time management and the ability to work as part of a team.


Main duties of the job

* To ensure the accuracy of data and records on a patient's cancer pathway journey by applying a detailed understanding of guidance and cancer care.
* To review individual pathways against Cancer Waiting Times guidelines, NHSE requirements, and Somerset Cancer Registry specifications.
* To apply corrections as required to records.
* To provide thematic analysis of patient's pathways and breaches of cancer targets to Cancer Services management for the benefit of services in the trust.
* To complete audits as required on Cancer data.
* To organise workload independently to meet deadlines and provide up-to-date record keeping.
* To use advanced keyboard skills.

The Cancer Services tracking team is a non-patient facing team that is responsible for overseeing the timely delivery of cancer standards and services. The team track patients on a cancer pathway, elevate issues to the attention of appropriate staff, provide accurate data to report the trust's performance, facilitate clinical multi-disciplinary meetings, and connect teams together, all to support cancer services throughout the trust.
