What you'll be responsible for
As a Development Planning Officer within our Developer Services team, you will manage planning activities in your assigned region, including responding to planning applications, pre-planning enquiries, and new sewer connections, all within statutory deadlines. You will collaborate with colleagues across the business, advise customers, and keep them informed of progress.
You will use your planning knowledge to ensure our interests are protected and that risks to customers, services, and the environment are minimized. Your responsibilities include:
* Responding to planning applications, pre-planning enquiries, and sewer connection applications to facilitate development while safeguarding interests and minimizing risks.
* Achieving timescales for your delegated tasks to meet national service standards and provide high-quality customer service.
* Managing expectations with external stakeholders such as local planning authorities, government bodies, and regulatory agencies, promoting a proactive planning approach.
* Engaging with local planning officers to ensure understanding and adherence to our consultation responses and advice.
* Providing information for feasibility studies, hydraulic models, and water cycle studies when required.
* Handling customer complaints appropriately.
* Ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation and policies during all activities.
* Participating in monthly reporting and reviews.
* Following all processes and procedures during activities.
* Collaborating with colleagues within the planning team and wider development control functions to meet business needs.
Who you'll work with
Internal: Developer Service Team, Clean and Wastewater Operations, Waste & Water Asset Teams
External: Customers (private, business, retailers, developers, solicitors, design consultancies), local authorities (planning, building control), contractors, land agents
Qualifications and Skills
o Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject OR experience in a planning profession
o Experience in the water industry is desirable but not essential
o Good communication skills, both verbal and written
o Stakeholder management experience
o Teamwork ability
o Ability to meet tight regulatory and project deadlines
