ESL Tutor
Location: Ashington
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is perfect for an experienced ESL teacher who is passionate about making a meaningful impact by providing engaging, tailored sessions that support these vulnerable students in improving their English, building their confidence, and engaging with learning.
The students you will support may be newly arrived in the UK, face challenges such as missed schooling, or have been displaced due to difficult circumstances. As an ESL Tutor, youll deliver lessons that meet their specific language needs, while also addressing emotional and social challenges, helping them feel safe, heard, and motivated to learn.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide individual ESL support to Looked After Children(LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC), either in the home, foster care, or a safe community setting ( library, learning hub).
2. Design and deliver bespoke lesson plans to meet the unique learning needs of each student, integrating aspects of social and emotional support to ensure positive learning outcomes.
3. Track and monitor student progress, adjusting teaching methods as required to ensure they continue to feel supported and engaged.
4. Collaborate with social workers, foster carers, and other professionals to ensure a holistic and supportive learning experience for each student.
5. Foster a nurturing, supportive relationship with students to build confidence and trust, providing a safe environment where they feel encouraged to learn and grow.
ROLE DETAILS
6. Location: Ashington (sessions may take place in the students home, foster care setting, or in the community)
7. Position: ESL Tutor
8. Start date: ASAP
9. Contract type: Temporary, ongoing
10. Hours: Flexible – from 1 to 2 hours per session; part-time and full-time options available
11. Pay rate: Up to GBP30 per hour
REQUIREMENTS
12. Recognised ESL teaching qualification ( CELTA, CertTESOL, or equivalent)
13. Minimum 6 months experience teaching ESL in a UK setting, ideally with vulnerable learners such as CLA or UASC
14. Understanding of the specific needs and challenges faced by Looked After Children (LAC) and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC)
15. Confident working independently and managing personalised learning plans for these learners
16. A valid enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one
