Overview
An excellent opportunity to start a career in finance within cost control. Supporting the Finance team, you’ll assist with cost monitoring and reporting across Operations, Projects, Wells and Decommissioning. This is a development role with structured progression into a Cost Controller position, working closely with operational and engineering teams under senior guidance. A leading independent energy operator with a strong presence in the UK, focused on getting the most out of existing assets through efficient, well-managed operations. Working across production, projects, wells and decommissioning, the business offers a fast-paced environment where cost awareness, teamwork and practical problem-solving are key.
Key Responsibilities
Support cost control across multiple business areas
Extract and analyse cost data from ERP systems
Assist with monthly reporting (actuals, accruals, forecasts)
Track commitments, purchase orders and invoices
Review and process requisitions, invoices and service entry sheets
Support time writing and cost allocation processes
Monitor cost variances and maintain cost breakdown structures
Assist with project cost tracking from approval to close-out
Contribute to process improvements and best practices
Development & Progression
Structured pathway into a Cost Controller role
Exposure across full asset lifecycle cost control
Training and support towards finance qualifications (AAT/CIMA)
Increasing responsibility as experience develops
Key Requirements
Strong numerical and analytical skills
High attention to detail
Proficient in Excel and handling data
Clear communication across teams
Organised, methodical, and able to manage workload
Proactive with a willingness to learn
A-levels (or equivalent); studying towards finance qualification desirable
