Ensure all packaging solutions are commercially viable, legally compliant, operationally robust and aligned with sustainability objectives, while supporting business growth and brand integrity. Key Responsibilities Packaging Development - New Product Introduction Lead packaging development for new food product launches from concept through to production. Deliver packaging solutions that meet legislative, retailer, consumer, supply chain and environmental requirements. Ensure all packaging formats are fit for purpose, cost-effective and aligned with brand positioning. Develop and maintain detailed packaging specifications agreed with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Define and execute testing protocols to validate pack performance, durability and functionality. Lead production line trials, ensuring clear documentation, performance analysis and approval standards. Drive innovation in recyclable and sustainable packaging formats across the portfolio. Packaging Development - Existing Product Range Manage packaging updates relating to continuity of supply, quality improvements and legislative changes. Identify and implement packaging enhancements to improve performance, reduce cost and minimise waste. Maintain an accurate and comprehensive packaging database covering all primary and secondary formats. Supplier & Quality Management Collaborate closely with packaging suppliers to maintain high quality standards and technical compliance. Participate in first print runs and approve ongoing quality benchmarks for printed components. Oversee artwork cutter guide control and technical packaging origination approvals. Ensure packaging documentation libraries are current, accurate and audit-ready. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence Review and improve packaging processes to enhance efficiency, reduce complexity and optimise cost. Challenge existing practices and introduce improved methodologies where appropriate. Monitor packaging performance KPIs and provide structured reporting on progress and outcomes. Troubleshooting & Risk Management Lead investigations into packaging-related issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventative actions. Ensure all packaging formats remain compliant and operationally effective across manufacturing sites. Manage improvements and revisions to resolve sub-standard performance while maintaining commercial viability. Environmental & Compliance Governance Maintain up-to-date environmental data across all packaging materials. Provide sustainability and compliance information to customers and third-party organisations as required. Support the business transition towards recyclable and environmentally responsible packaging solutions in line with industry and legislative developments. Commercial Awareness Understand the commercial drivers within Food FMCG, ensuring packaging solutions align with procurement, operational and brand strategies.
