What is the job?
This role offers a great opportunity for an experienced Service Engineer residing near the M4 corridor to join the South West's largest generator specialist. You will play a key role in supporting the Service Department by performing maintenance and repairs on customer‑owned diesel generators and our rental fleet, requiring a high degree of customer interaction and collaboration.
Responsibilities
* Perform routine servicing and maintenance of diesel generators for both customer‑owned and rental equipment.
* Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on customer and rental generators, ensuring quick resolution of any issues.
* Conduct site surveys as requested to assess service needs and maintenance requirements.
* Participate in the company’s on‑call rota system to provide timely assistance during off‑hours.
* Follow the Company Health & Safety Policy, maintaining clean and orderly workspaces, including company vehicles.
* Comply with all aspects of the company ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001) and contribute to continuous improvement.
Skills and Requirements
* Technical Qualifications
o Relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Diesel Fitting, or Plant Maintenance (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC) or completion of an approved apprenticeship.
o Proven experience in servicing and repairing generator sets, particularly FG Wilson, Cummins, or similar (essential).
* Troubleshooting & Communication – Strong fault‑finding skills and effective communication.
* Field Service Experience – Prior experience working in a field service role (advantageous).
* Driving & Licencing – Full driving licence required.
* Customer Awareness – Ability to understand and meet customer requirements efficiently and effectively.
* Independence and Teamwork – Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
* Competency Cards – ECS/CSCS or CCNSG competency card preferred but not essential.
Pay and Overtime
* Overtime rates apply to hours worked outside of standard times as outlined: Monday to Friday, 12 am‑4 am – Monthly rate; 8 am‑5 pm – Standard rate; 5 pm‑midnight – Double time. Saturdays, 12 am‑4 am – Double time; 4 am‑midnight – Double time. Sundays & bank holidays – Double time for all hours.
