TEXO Recruitment are currently working with our external client - a well-established engineering and fabrication business to source an experienced CAD Draughtsman to join its Aberdeen based team.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing CAD drawings, profiling templates, and maintaining design data, while also supporting estimating activities for fabrication scopes. Working closely with production, estimating, and external stakeholders, the role requires strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in a quick turnaround environment.
Key Responsibilities
Produce CAD drawings and burning table profile templates for fabrication projects
Review client drawings and specifications to compile Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support contract reviews
Control and manage drawing revisions, ensuring correct version control, issuing, and archiving
Generate as-built drawings and maintain design databases
Liaise with clients, suppliers, and third-party design houses to gather and verify design inputs
Support estimating team by assisting with material take-offs and technical input for quotations
Work closely with Production Manager and Quotes team to ensure accurate and timely submissions
Produce working drawings from survey reports and site sketches
Assist with dimensional surveys and compile detailed reports for quality and production teams
Support implementation of company Health & Safety and Environmental policies
Ensure all design-related materials and processes consider associated risks and compliance requirements
Adhere to relevant legislation, standards, and internal risk assessments
Requirements
Proven experience in a CAD / design role within fabrication or engineering environments
Strong understanding of fabrication processes, particularly structural steel and/or pipework
Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation
Experience compiling BOMs and supporting estimating functions
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
High attention to detail and accuracy in design and documentation control
Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise across multiple departments and external stakeholders
Systems & Software
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Experience with CAD software (2D/3D)
Experience with PDF review/editing tools
Education & Qualifications
Relevant technical or trade qualification in Engineering / Fabrication / Design preferred
Working Hours
Monday to Friday
8:00am – 5:00pm
Start date ideally end of April
