Job summary
Here at South Tees Hospital NHS Trust we have an exciting opportunity for an 19-month fixed term full-time training post in Echocardiography. This is part of the Echocardiography Training Programme (ETP) developed by the National School of Healthcare Science and funded by Health Education England.
This training programme will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work and train in a large tertiary centre and complete both work based and academic learning. Whilst on the programme trainees will complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Echocardiography and work towards British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) level 2 Adult Transthoracic accreditation. The Echocardiography Unit is a large busy department split across multiple sites, with the largest site being the James Cook University Hospital. In addition, we work at a number of external community clinics across Teesside, the successful candidate will be expected to work across sites and must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role.

Main duties of the job
The James Cook University Hospital is a leading innovative regional centre for Cardiology and offers a variety of diagnostic examinations, interventions and surgery for a wide range of cardiac diseases. Our hospital aims to develop the future workforce for Cardiac Physiologists and Healthcare Scientists.
Our small, dedicated Echocardiography department is run by accredited BSE Echocardiographers, alongside 3 Consultant Cardiologists with a special interest in Echocardiography. The department has already appointed three STP students post qualification, one who has sucessfully achieved their BSE Transoesophageal Echo (TOE) Accreditation and is currently on the HSST programme. We currently have two ETP students, one who has almost finished their training and one who is part way through. We also have three additional members staff who have achieved their STP equivalence. The department boasts a robust training programme for current and prospective students and has successfully trained previous students to achieve their BSE level 2 adult accreditation with a dedicated Echocardiography Lead for Teaching and Training.
