The Opportunity We’re looking for a proactive, technically skilled Analytical Chemist to provide round-the-clock analytical and emergency response support across the Site. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations for multiple businesses, while playing a vital part in keeping our people and processes protected. The Role To provide 24/7 analytical service to all Site businesses to meet commercial, operational and SHE requirements. This includes the emergency response measurement capability for all incidents in line with regional emergency response agreements. You will provide essential 24/7 analytical cover for all production assets based on Site. Your duties and responsibilities will be Provide a 24-hour analytical and technical service to manufacturing assets on Site to meet SHE, operational and commercial requirements Analyse and retrieve samples to meet an agreed analytical schedule set out in SLA’s and quality agreements using procedures described in the quality management system so that SHE, production and commercial needs are met. To provide on or off-site analytical monitoring service (Gas Detection Officer) in line with agreed regional response responsibilities. This includes provision of gas testing in support of safe entry requirements for all businesses Support wider team activities by providing flexible resource as determined by business (multi) requirements, this includes the use of commitment time Validate and report analytical results, taking appropriate action to address anomalies to ensure that all business decisions are based on robust data. Maintain and calibrate analytical instruments to the agreed schedule including rectifying problems as they arise. Ensuring all anomalies are reported using agreed quality management system. Provide technical assistance to the Shift Manager and / or management by analysing unscheduled samples by prescribed methods Train new laboratory staff and process operators in the use of analytical procedures to improve their basic understanding and capability Analytical service covered 24 hours a day meeting agreed site requirements Analysis of all agreed samples completed in full to meet site SLA’s Fully trained and validated to cover site emergency response requirements Support provided to wider lab activities to help meet business needs All required results reported fully and on time using agreed reporting processes All required SSTs and calibrations carried out to agreed schedules, any failures or issued raised with required persons and quality system requirements followed Adaptable approach and able to prioritise with site management key analysis requirements Laboratory staff and process operators trained and validated in documented procedures You will have the following qualifications and experience Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related science. 3–5 years’ laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, with strong knowledge of chromatography and titrimetric techniques. Proven ability to work with ISO quality standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 17025). Practical skills in troubleshooting analytical equipment (particularly GC and titration systems). Valid UK driving licence and willingness to work at heights on plant structures.
