Priory Hospital Chelmsford is a long-established private hospital with 56 beds across acute and addiction pathways. This expansion introduces a new CAMHS ward, offering inpatient care for young people aged 13–18.
Job responsibilities
You will be part of a compassionate team committed to patients’ wellbeing. As a CAMHS Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a key part in patients’ recovery, assisting qualified staff with assessment and implementation of individual care plans, and undertaking routine tasks and activities to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment.
* Serve as Consultant and Responsible Clinician, leading patient care planning and multidisciplinary collaboration across inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Assess and manage complex cases, chair MDT/CPA meetings, and liaise with patients, families and external stakeholders.
* Provide clinical leadership alongside the Ward Manager, ensuring compliance with regulatory and organisational standards.
* Contribute to governance and quality improvement through active participation in ward, CAMHS, and service development meetings.
* Engage in academic activities including teaching, case presentations, audit, research, and ongoing professional development.

Job responsibilities (CAMHS lead)
Be part of shaping something new and lead our brand-new CAMHS service in Chelmsford. This is a full-time, 37.5-hour role.
Lead and shape a new CAMHS ward at Priory Hospital Chelmsford with the backing of the UK’s leading independent mental healthcare provider.
We are expanding CAMHS services and seek an experienced Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist to help launch and lead this inpatient ward from the ground up. Flexible working options including one day a week from home are open for discussion.
As Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist, you will provide central leadership to a multidisciplinary team and help foster a positive, recovery-focused culture for young people and their families.
Person specification
Requirements — Essential
* The successful candidate will hold full GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register, CAMHS CCT or equivalent CESR, and Approved Clinician status.
* Significant experience in CAMHS inpatient and/or community settings with advanced clinical expertise and sound clinical judgement.
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a thorough understanding of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
Disclosure and DBS checks — This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and requires DBS/Disclosure submission. Priory will cover the cost of a DBS check.
UK Registration — Applicants must have current UK professional registration.
