Overview
Are you ready to take on a leadership role at the heart of public safety and emergency response? New Forest District Council (NFDC) is offering an exciting opportunity to join our modern, purpose-built 24-hour Control Room as a Control Room Supervisor. You’ll be part of a dedicated team delivering critical services that make a real difference to our community — every hour of every day.
What you’ll be leading
* Oversee a team of around 20 skilled Operators and ensure the smooth running of services including Emergency Careline calls for over 2,500 vulnerable residents.
* Monitor over 70 public space CCTV cameras, plus a further ~70 cameras in communal areas across housing stock, with ongoing investment to expand and upgrade to a fully digital system.
* Lone Worker safety monitoring for 200+ council staff.
* Out-of-hours response for all council services, including housing and environmental emergencies.
* Fire alarm monitoring for council housing stock.
* Real-time coordination with emergency services, including incident support and evidence gathering.
* Emergency planning support for major incidents and council-wide response.
Your role
* Act as the operational lead on your shift, responsible for staff supervision, training, and performance reviews.
* Rota management, absence monitoring, and team development.
* Leading responses to critical incidents with confidence and clarity.
* Ensuring compliance with legal and procedural standards.
* Maintaining high-quality records and logs.
* Producing data and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
* Promoting and developing the service through networking and outreach.
* Supporting the Operations Manager in strategic and day-to-day functions.
Who we’re looking for
* Supervisory experience in a control room setting, or substantial operational experience.
* Strong leadership and communication skills.
* A calm, decisive approach under pressure.
* A passion for public service and community safety.
You’ll work a 2-week recurring rota with varying shifts between the hours of 09:00–22:00, including some weekend work every other weekend — opposite the second Supervisor. Flexibility is essential to maintain service continuity.
What’s in it for you?
* £31,161 - £39,469 per annum
* 24–26 days annual leave plus bank holidays plus an additional 5 days for 5 years local authority continuous service.
* Local Government Pension Scheme and AVC provision
* Hybrid Working
* Wide range of employee discounts at high street retailers, including supermarkets, stores and restaurants
* A Cycle to Work scheme which could save you around 40 percent on cycles and accessories
* Employee Assistance Programme (free 24 hour legal, financial and personal advice for employees)
