This is an exciting time to join the Acute Stroke Service in the East Kent University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust (EKHUFT)! Our service is expanding to a brand new 54 bedded purpose built new acute stroke service re-located at the William Harvey Hospital in 2027 and system funded local stroke Mechanical Thrombectomy service at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. In preparation for all these service developments, we are now uplifting our stroke nursing workforce to continue providing one of the best stroke cares in the country. We have an opportunity for you to join our wonderful team of hyperacute nurses! This post includes 60% clinical work with 40% management-leadership work and working pattern of 5/7.


Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be a front-line lead for hyperacute Stroke Nursing Team. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner working within the Stroke Scope of Practice and is responsible for providing clinical, operational and day-day support to the team. Within the clinical activities, you will be responding to all urgent stroke calls, facilitating rapid assessment, timely stroke diagnosis and commencing appropriate hyperacute care protocol to eligible individuals for treatment targets. The role will be responsible for ensuring robust rota and 24/7 staffing cover is available within HASU and stroke Front Door with timely escalation to the stroke matron when required. The post holder is expected to form a strong collaborative working relationship with wider stroke MDT to ensure consistent comprehensive hyperacute care is provided to the service user. And be a transformational and compassionate leader with high visibility within the team.

The post holder is expected to rotate between ward-base (HASU) and front-door 5/7. This person will be expected to provide clinical supervision, work with stroke Clinical Educator to form a strong teaching-learning environment and have a robust PDP for self and for staffs under the line management responsibility. The post holder will play a crucial role in consistent achievement of stroke specific national and local quality standards including robust documentations to support the local and national stroke audits.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work at an enhanced level of practice utilising highly developed post graduate experience, knowledge and skills in stroke specialty. They will manage discrete aspects of a patient’s care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, within their current level of practice and patient group, aligned to the four pillars of practice and aligned to Trust policy, ‘Enhanced, Advanced and Consultant Level Practice- Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).’

Qualifications & Training

* Current NMC Registration
* Evidence of post-registration CPD and/or course within stroke
* E-learning certificate in stroke Core competencies and Advancing Modules on STARs
* Formal teaching-facilitating qualification & Stroke neuro-observations
* M.Sc in stroke or Advanced Practice
* NHS leadership academy qualifications
* Non-medical prescribing V300


Knowledge, Skills & Experience

* Significant post- grad healthcare working experience in acute stroke or other clinical specialities
* Knowledge & experience of using clinical policies, protocols, guidelines related to stroke
* Skills of excellent time management, organisation of work & effective networking/matrix working
* Good IT skills & experience of supervising staffs or training delivery
* Experience of patient assessments and specialised care plans
* Experience of presenting to groups of staffs/public


Governance

* Understanding of NHS governance framework
* Evidence of innovative practice & research or audit
* Evidence of quality improvement in patient care and safety
* • Experience of implementing and evaluating improvements in care
