This role is a Senior Quantity Surveyor position within Balfour Beatty’s Regional Civils team, focusing on Sub Stations in Avonmouth. It is a 2‑year project that requires full site presence and a strong civil engineering background.
About the role
Shape the commercial success of inspiring infrastructure projects. You will manage all costs related to civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures, and minimize project costs while enhancing value for money. You should be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES or CIOB, with experience managing a small team of commercial staff and mentoring junior staff.
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will act as the custodian of the commercial side of construction works. Your responsibilities include:
* Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
* Orders information and systematically checks data
* Cost Engineering
* Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
* Estimating
* Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
* Planning
* Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time‑Location
* Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
* Project Management
* Monitors subcontract activities, measures and responds appropriately
* Analyses the commercial progress and reports to senior project staff
* Procurement
* Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
* Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
* Commercial Management
* Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
* Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
* Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation
* Development, Recruitment and Retention
* Maintains own Personal Development Plan
* Actively supports the development of others
* Produces plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations
* Supports recruitment of lower grades
Who we're looking for
The following qualifications are essential:
* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
* Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards)
