Professional Duties of a Teacher

1. Exercise of general professional duties
A teacher who is not a principal shall carry out professional duties as circumstances require, including:
* (a) Employed as a teacher under the reasonable direction of the principal;
* (b) Employed by a board on terms where not assigned to a specific school, under the direction of the board and the principal of any school where required to work.
1. Exercise of particular duties
Teachers shall perform duties reasonably assigned by the principal or the board, including teaching, planning, assessment, and participation in school activities.
Responsibilities
1. Planning
* Preparing courses and lessons;
* Teaching pupils according to their educational needs;
* Assessing and reporting on pupil development.
1. General
* Promoting pupils' progress and well-being;
* Providing advice on educational and social matters;
* Making records and reports on pupils;
* Communicating with parents and external bodies;
* Participating in meetings.
1. Assessment/Reporting
Providing assessments, reports, and references related to pupils.
1. Staff Development
Participating in staff development schemes, reviewing teaching methods, and engaging in professional training.
1. Discipline/Health and Safety
Maintaining discipline, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in school meetings related to curriculum and administration.
1. Public Examinations
Preparing pupils for examinations, assessing, recording, and supervising during exams.
1. Management Activities/Administration
Contributing to staff recruitment, managing teachers, and participating in curriculum and pastoral management.
1. Working Hours
Full-time teachers are available for 195 days/year, with specific hours and break requirements as specified.
1. Staff Cover
Supervising pupils during staff absences, with specific provisions based on school size.
