Job Description
We are seeking a Development Engineer to contribute to concept studies, design packages, and support planning applications, technical approvals, and construction issues across various sectors and clients. The role requires active participation in multiple projects, client engagement, stakeholder management, and ensuring deliverables meet budget, program, technical, and legal standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to concept studies, strategies, drawing packages, leading to planning applications, technical approval submissions and construction issues.
* Contribute to all types of Development projects across all sectors and clients.
* Be active on several varied projects at any given time.
* Receive support from the Manchester team to develop technical capabilities and support career progression.
* Engage with clients, stakeholders, and design teams, both internal and external.
* Ensure tasks are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
* Knowledge of highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment and management, utility design and planning, and the Development Industry.
* Appreciation of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics and building structures; understanding of construction design stages and procedures.
* Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings under supervision.
* Knowledge of relevant design codes (Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, Local Authority Design Guidance) and experience preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
* Strong written and spoken communication skills; awareness of current technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability.
* Proficiency in relevant software including Info Drainage, Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and/or PDS.
* Experience liaising with clients, co-professionals and design teams; competence in dealing with highway, water, statutory and local authorities.
* Aware of legal processes, planning, design, software, technical consents, adoption and contract procedures for sewers, SuDS, highways and utilities.
* Knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering projects.
* Postgraduate (or equivalent) experience, working towards Chartership or equivalent experience and responsibility.
