The Opportunity
A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Chief Nuclear Safety Engineer to take a senior technical role within its defence-focused nuclear division. This is a chance to influence major programmes, drive innovation in safety management, and support the development of high-performing teams across a range of strategic projects.

This role would suit candidates working in these roles: Safety Case Manager, Safety Case Director, Principal Safety Engineer, Nuclear Assurance Lead, Regulatory Liaison, Systems Safety Engineer, Safety Consultant, Technical Authority, Safety Programme Manager, or Nuclear Licensing Specialist.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Lead the design and delivery of technical assurance solutions for nuclear defence programmes and consultancy assignments.
Provide strategic oversight and direction on safety case development across the full lifecycle, from concept to decommissioning.
Influence technical strategy across the business, ensuring alignment with innovation and regulatory expectations.
Mentor and coach engineers within the nuclear safety community, supporting recruitment and capability growth.
Oversee quality assurance and ensure consistent delivery standards across all safety-related projects.
Engage with stakeholders, including regulators, to secure successful outcomes and build trusted relationships.
Support business development activities, including bid strategy, solution architecture,
Promote a strong safety culture and help shape high-performing, collaborative teams.
Apply advanced safety assessment techniques, both deterministic and probabilistic, to complex engineering challenges.
Contribute to peer reviews, independent technical assessments, and verification activities.You will have the following qualifications and experience
A Master’s degree in engineering, science, or mathematics, ideally with Chartered or Fellow status.
Extensive experience in nuclear safety, licensing, and assurance across defence and civil sectors.
Deep understanding of UK nuclear regulatory frameworks and safety methodologies.
Proven leadership in safety case planning and execution for high-category projects.
