About the Role

As a Director of Platform Engineering, you'll be responsible for providing strategic direction and hands-on leadership of the design, development and operations of the Societies core technology platforms, including shared platforms and colleague experience platforms.

A key focus of the role will be defining and executing the vision, strategy and roadmap for platform engineering to support ambitions of the technology department and in turn the efficient growth of the business.

You'll develop high-performing engineering teams, foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement and champion best practices in platform engineering and DevSecOps, alongside oversee platform architecture, security compliance and operational excellence, ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable and innovative solutions that align with the technology strategy.

Alongside regularly presenting updates to senior leadership and board-level stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity on technical initiatives, timelines, and budgets, you'll lead strategic technology partnerships and represent the platform capability in leadership forums.

About You

As a proven leader who seeks to inspire and motivate teams, you'll have a strong background in engineering, which includes cloud systems, distributed computing, DevSecOps, APIs and databases.

Alongside having the ability to drive efficiency, process improvement, and effective risk management across the team, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls, you'll be proactive and results-driven, consistently focused on achieving objectives and driving transformation initiatives to completion.

You'll have familiarity with technical stacks including:

* Java, Python and C++
* Cloud Platforms: Azure, AWS or GCP
* CI/CD pipelines and Containerisation: Docker and Kubernetes

A proven track record of enabling organisations and individuals to achieve high performance by advocating for collaboration and continuous improvement is essential, as is a strong knowledge of the UK financial services sector, including industry emerging trends, regulatory landscape and competitive dynamics.
