Job Description
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week at minimum. Due to support for live race events during weekends, a flexible schedule is required.
The Role
We seek a Motorsports Sportscar Data Analyst to apply data science and modeling techniques to develop and refine race strategy tools, aiding pre-race planning and real-time decision-making during live races.
What You’ll Do
1. Refine existing AI/ML models for Sportscars, updating Python code and reimagining where necessary.
2. Develop a platform for running and analyzing Monte Carlo simulations.
3. Create tire degradation models, refining parameters for accurate predictions.
4. Design visualizations to effectively convey insights, prototyping and collaborating with IT and software teams for production.
5. Utilize race strategy tools to verify accuracy, analyze performance, and identify areas for improvement, working with IMSA and WEC teams.
6. Resolve vehicle pace considering track migration, traffic, energy strategies, and tire and fuel effects.
7. Predict pace variations to inform session planning and strategy.
8. Collaborate with GM and motorsport teams to develop and support race strategy tools and analyses.
9. Co-develop race strategy software with data science and IT teams.
10. Apply analysis techniques across different racing series to validate and refine models.
Additional Job Description
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)
* Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
* 5+ years in top-level motorsports series with 2+ years developing or using strategy tools.
* Deep knowledge of motorsports race strategy tools and analysis during live events.
* Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages.
* Familiarity with AI/ML modeling techniques.
* Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a forward-thinking approach.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and experience navigating team dynamics and politics.
* Ability to travel within the US approximately 10% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in a relevant field.
* Experience with tire modeling and validation.
* Knowledge of simulation workflows in professional motorsports.
* Experience with machine learning libraries and big data tools.
