Reporting to: Classical Lead
Location: Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: 24 hours/week (Mon-Wed)
Number of positions: 1 (Temporary for 12 months)
Start Date: End of July
The Opportunity
This role involves analyzing flavour and fragrance raw materials passing through our Quality Control laboratory, including classical wet analysis, instrumental analysis, and organoleptic evaluation to ensure materials are fit for purpose.

What you’ll be doing
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Measuring physical parameters of raw materials (density, refractive index, optical rotation, melting points, flash points)
* Performing classical and instrumental analyses (peroxide values, acid values, ester values, UV, IR, chromatography, MS)
* Conducting organoleptic evaluations and preparing tasting solutions
* Preparing reagents, calibrating instruments, and coordinating external analyses
* Assisting with sample receipt, laboratory housekeeping, and continuous improvement efforts
Additional departmental tasks:
* Maintaining chemical inventory and purchasing supplies
* Ensuring a clean, safe working environment and reporting hazards
* Reporting equipment issues and maintaining safety standards
* Participating in training and shift work as needed
What we’re looking for
* A science degree, preferably with chemistry modules, or equivalent experience
* Experience in an industrial laboratory
* Data analysis skills related to laboratory work
