Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and skilled CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner to join the Primary Intervention Team within Wakefield CAMHS. This is an opportunity to work in the heart of our Single Point of Access (SPA), contributing to triage and early intervention to help young people and families access the right help at the right time.
You would be joining the team at an exciting time as we review our front door into the service. Calls are encouraged. The team currently operates from Flemming Court, Castleford until December 2025, with temporary relocation to Drury Lane Health and Well-Being Centre in Wakefield until September 2026 and a permanent move to Fieldhead Hospital from September 2026.
Responsibilities
* Be the first point of contact for children, young people, families and professionals within the Single Point of Access (SPA). Take triage calls, make informed clinical decisions, and provide supportive advice and signposting to help navigate the service.
* Deliver brief, targeted support through the 2+1 approach: one initial assessment and two focused intervention sessions.
* Assess and refer children and young people to the right internal or external services, as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential: Registered Mental Health Nurse / Social Worker / Occupational Therapist
* Desirable: mentorship qualification or equivalent; willingness to work towards practice educator status
* Essential: experience in assessing and managing risk in children and young people; ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; good written and verbal communication skills
* Essential: working knowledge of legislation and frameworks relevant to children's mental health (e.g., Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach, safeguarding)
* Desirable: experience delivering a range of therapeutic techniques in one-to-one and/or group settings; experience supervising students/trainees
Professional and Governance
* Maintain professional registration and adherence to statutory codes of practice; participate in CPD and audit processes; contribute to clinical governance and service development.
* Adhere to safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of children and young people.
* Ensure compliance with Trust policies on data protection (GDPR/DPA), confidentiality, health and safety, equal opportunities and infection control.

* Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per year; Band 5; permanent, full-time with flexible working
