The Head of Sustainability plays a pivotal role in helping ASOS meet these ambitions, working closely with the Commercial ESG & Sustainability Director to manage and develop the Environmental aspects of FWI, across Product Sustainability, Circularity, and Supply Chain. This is a highly collaborative role, engaging cross-functional stakeholders across various areas. You will set the strategic direction and have overall responsibility for sustainability programmes and workstreams, integrating sustainability into commercial and supply chain practices. You will also be the programme lead for the ASOS Net Zero strategy, with experience in setting and delivering ambitious carbon-reduction targets across complex organizations.
The Details
* Drive forward the Fashion with Integrity programme, working with Senior leadership to evolve the strategic direction and goals.
* Enable and empower the business to proactively address Environmental impacts.
* Work closely with the Commercial ESG Director to engage Exec Board members and gain buy-in for the programme.
* Represent the Sustainability team within the FWI steering group, leading key strategic workstreams to achieve “becoming the most sustainable online retailer”.
* Set frameworks, policies, and manage performance of FWI workstreams.
* Collaborate using an agile approach to drive change at scale and manage risks in the supply chain, supporting the 'Be Transparent' goal.
* Ensure KPI integration across functions like Commercial, Sourcing, Technical & Fabric sourcing to meet goals such as fibre switching and transparency.
* Deliver various workstreams including Net Zero management, Circular design strategy, ESG reporting, benchmarking, Diversity & Inclusion, and charitable partnerships including the ASOS Foundation.
Commercial
* Lead integration of sustainability into business practices and stakeholder engagement.
* Develop and support delivery of KPIs and commercial strategy.
* Define the product sustainability roadmap with data-driven targets.
* Oversee circular design strategy development and delivery, including collections and design guides.
* Develop internal training, tools, guides, and communications to upskill teams.
* Act as subject matter expert on product sustainability topics.
* Implement certification processes like Labelon and integrate into PLM and other functions.
* Manage collection and supply chain sustainability data reporting, including Scope 3 Carbon footprint and circular data.
Supply chain
* Oversee the supply chain, including Higg implementation and impact reduction programmes.
* Stay updated on global ESG legislation affecting online fashion retail.
* Manage risks related to policies like CMA, EU, and UK regulations.
* Develop and implement sustainability policies to reduce risks and engage the supply base.
* Manage supply chain issues and escalate as needed.
* Respond to NGO campaigns with support from corporate comms.
* Manage risks via the ESG risk register.
* Oversee reporting such as Annual and Sustainability reports, Textiles 2030, and NGO reports.
* Evaluate project outcomes and report to leadership.
* Collaborate on ESG and SBTi reporting with the Corporate Responsibility team.
Team leadership
* Manage a team of experts across functions to advance sustainability initiatives.
* Participate in the ASOS foundation management, working on strategy and goals.
* Support team development, foster motivation, and uphold company values and culture.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience in sustainability roles across multiple topics.
* Deep knowledge of global sustainability legislation impacting online fashion retail.
* Ability to define and communicate strategic direction and motivate teams.
* Agile and dynamic working style, capable of trading risks and opportunities.
* Cultural sensitivity across diverse stakeholder groups.
* Proficient in communicating environmental and ethical matters to varied audiences.
* Strong influencing, advising, and coaching skills.
