You will be a Qualified Time-served Mechanic as recognised by an Industry Board and will be based at our Underwood Road Depot, working on all Renfrewshire Council's transport fleet.
The role involves undertaking all aspects of servicing, testing, overhauls, repairs, planned maintenance, and enhancements to a comprehensive range of vehicles, plant, and equipment used by Fleet Operations / Community Services, other Council Services, and clients. All work must be carried out to contribute to a high-quality, responsive, and cost-effective service that meets service and customer expectations.
You must have experience in servicing, maintenance, and repairs of heavy goods, industrial, and other vehicles, such as trucks, tippers, vans, cars, buses, tractors, trailers, refuse collection vehicles, container trucks, snow ploughs, and gritting vehicles.
Knowledge of DVSA's guide to roadworthiness, defect specification for maintenance and MOT preparation, and familiarity with Transport and DVSA/DVLA procedures and standards are essential. Knowledge of operating diagnostic tools and Health and Safety awareness related to vehicle repairs is also required.
Experience in preparing vehicles for DVSA MOT testing in accordance with regulatory and approved specifications is necessary.
You should be capable of working independently with minimal supervision, road testing, diagnosing vehicle faults, and carrying out all work to a high standard of workmanship, practice, and customer care.
You will also provide advice and instruction on servicing, maintenance, and repairs for a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
Prioritising work, meeting deadlines, and responding positively under pressure are important aspects of this role.
This position requires participation in a standby rota, with availability outside regular hours, sometimes at short notice.
It is essential to have a City & Guilds Certificate, a LGV category C license, and a driving license category CE is desirable.
