NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) has made significant progress in its transformation journey in recent years. We are entering the next phase of our improvement programme and these are exciting times for the organisation. NHSGGC is recognised for delivering modern, high‑quality patient care and progressive medicine. It is therefore vital that we continue to attract, develop and retain talented, public service‑focused people, both locally and internationally.
The Acute Division, within which the North Sector sits, delivers a significant proportion of NHSGGC healthcare services. We are seeking to appoint a Chief Allied Health Professional (AHP) for the North Sector. This key post will be accountable for the strategic and operational leadership, delivery and development of the service, supporting NHSGGC and the North Sector to deliver our aims for Better Care, Better Health, Better Workplace and Better Value.
This is a senior strategic and operational role requiring a visible and inclusive leadership style, underpinned by the experience and values necessary to lead and support the organisation. You will demonstrate strong influencing and leadership skills, with significant senior‑level AHP experience and operational management expertise within a healthcare setting (or an equivalent complex environment). You will be able to inspire confidence and respect, and lead effectively within a politically sensitive and demanding context. A proven track record of high‑quality service delivery is essential.
Allied Health Profession services in the North Sector of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde employ approximately 100 whole‑time equivalent (WTE) staff across a range of specialties. The recurring budget is £6.5m.
The Chief AHP is responsible for professional leadership, development and standards, and for clinical service delivery across all Allied Health Professionals within the North Sector.
The post holder will provide strategic leadership and operational management for AHP services and will be accountable to the Director for delegated management and control of resources within the defined service area. The post holder will deliver agreed business and clinical performance targets in accordance with local, regional and national objectives for the North Sector and the Acute Operating Division.
The post holder will provide operational support to the Director to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of safe patient care, clinical governance and performance standards. The post holder will contribute to the wider delivery of the business and clinical service agenda and will hold direct line management responsibility for team leads within the service area and will be expected to contribute to the duty manager on call rota.
The Chief AHP will work collaboratively within services and across service boundaries to support a whole‑system approach. Key relationships will include General Managers, Clinical Service Managers, Lead Nurses, Clinical Directors and Lead Clinicians, as well as colleagues across a wide range of specialties.
The successful candidate will have extensive AHP leadership experience and will be a strategic thinker, able to work at pace across complex services. You will have significant experience of working at senior management and/or Board level within a large and complex NHS, health and social care, or equivalent organisation.
You will have a strong understanding of the role of AHPs in delivering safe and effective services, and experience of working in partnership to deliver sustainable change. You will also have demonstrable experience of leading service improvement.
Applications from candidates in comparable public and private sector organisations are welcome. We are seeking an exceptional individual with resilience, political acumen and strategic vision, together with the leadership and delivery skills required to make a positive impact both internally and externally.
Key to success in this role will be the ability to contribute to a strong, patient‑focused culture that encourages initiative, accountability and open communication. You will bring broad general management experience, with evidence of delivering against performance expectations while maintaining a clear focus on high‑quality patient care.
If you are motivated by the challenges this opportunity presents and believe you have the skills, experience and qualities required, we welcome your application. All applications will be considered carefully.
