Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine. The post will have a special interest in Lung Cancer, Pleural Disease, TB. The Directorate provides services across 3 hospital sites within Worcestershire. The candidate will benefit from working within a friendly and experienced team.
The Trust is involved in developing the training program for students from the Three Counties Medical School and has links with the Medical School, the University of Birmingham, and the University of Warwick. As part of the Consultant Advisory Appointment Committee, shortlisted candidates may be asked to present on a topic during the interview process.
Main duties of the job
 * Provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
 * Work within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high quality clinical care; duties may be undertaken on three sites and closer to patients’ homes. The Trust may revise job plans to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres as needed.
 * Provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely and appropriate patient care and flow.
 * Provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
 * Attend cross-county and cross-site meetings.

Qualifications
Essential
 * Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practise.
 * Entry on Specialist Register in Respiratory (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date) via CCT or CESR (CP) and CESR or European Community Rights.
 * Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
Desirable
 * Higher degree.
Experience
Essential
 * Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Respiratory.
 * Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems (emergency and elective within the specialty).
 * Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
 * Sub-specialty expertise.
Management and Administration
Essential
 * Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
 * Ability to advise on the efficient and smooth running of the specialist service.
 * Ability to organise outpatient priorities and to manage the specialty team and multi-disciplinary groups.
 * Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.
Teaching
Essential
 * Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
 * Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
Personal Attributes
Essential
 * Ability to work in a team and maintain an enquiring, critical approach to work.
 * Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
 * Commitment to Continuing Medical Education.
Other requirements
 * Understanding of the current NHS environment, including reforms and initiatives.
 * Evidence of ability to meet travel requirements and be able to return to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call.
