Manufacturing Laboratory Technologist

What you will be doing
Work as part of a dedicated team delivering laboratory activities to support the production of turbine blades, covering casting, machining, and coating processes. This role will be aligned with the Precision Casting Facility (PCF), Turbine Blade Facility (TBF), or Precision Machining Facility (PMF) in Derby.
Responsibilities
* Conduct laboratory testing of raw materials, heat treatments, consumables, and chemicals.
* Control and develop special processes required for component manufacture.
* Ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal standards.
* Verify engineering specifications for new parts and ongoing production.
* Support testing for process improvement, zero defect, and cost reduction initiatives.
* Lead investigations to resolve quality issues.

Additional responsibilities include:
* Microstructural evaluation of test samples from steel, titanium, and nickel alloys at various manufacturing stages.
* Approve process data, procedures, drawings, and methods of manufacture for both domestic and external supply parts.
* Ensure process compliance with international standards through shop floor instructions and audits.
* Support the Product Control Authority (PCA) in process change approvals.
* Participate in multi-functional teams to improve processes and resolve manufacturing issues.
Who we're looking for:

* Hold a degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
* Be working towards or have achieved Chartered Engineer status (UK) or similar.
* Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
